TNIM Puts On the Green for Off The Shelf!
Theatre Night In Merrickville's "Stories for Grown-ups" program is on back on Wed. Mar. 21 at a special time - 7:00 pm - with an evening of "Irish Wit & Wisdom" in honour of St. Patrick's Day.
Guest readers include TNIM favourite, Gerard Phillips and Diana Beresford-Kroeger, international botanical celebrity & raconteur, who will be sharing some favourite stories.
We are also excited to welcome back The Giocoso Strings, who were such a hit in December. This time The Strings promise to set heels tapping with some lively Irish music.
As always, Off the Shelf is held at the Merrickville Library. Light refreshments will be available. There is no charge, but donations are appreciated. Seats are sure to fill up quickly - reserve yours today (613-269-3326 or merrickville_library@bellnet.ca).

Library Use Going Up!
Did you know that library use increased 7% at the Merrickville Library in 2011?
That visits to our Library have grown by over 25%, and circulation & Internet use have increased by almost 40% over the last 5 years?
Did you know that the Library held 88 programs for children and adults last year with nearly 2,000 attendees? And that the librarian made 80 visits to schools and community groups in 2011?

Take a (March) Break at the Library:
Bring your kids to the Library during March Break - for a day trip without leaving the village! We have new kids' books, computers with games and TumbleBooks narrated picture books (also available at home from our website), and our March Break “Fun Corner” - with board games, puzzles, and more. Or come to one of our fun March Break activities.

Ma Famille a la Bibliotheque: French families & French immersion families are welcome for a French StoryTime & book launch on Sat. Mar. 10 at 1:00 pm. Join us for French stories, games, & songs and see our new collection of French books for kids of all ages! This program and collection are provided thanks to Eric Galarneau and the Regional French Network for the Best Start Initiative.
Take Flight: Join us Tues, Mar. 13 at 1:00 pm for an afternoon of flying machines & the launch of our LEGO Club! Come build LEGO flying machines - and make paper airplanes & amazing gliders that really fly. Fun for kids aged 5-12.
Learn to Knit!: [FULL] The Knitting Club is offering beginning instruction and help to aspiring knitters & crocheters of all ages on Tues. Mar. 13, 1:00-3:00 pm (needles & yarn available).
Brenda Carter Memorial Art Workshop for Kids: Join Debbie Alexander on Thurs., Mar. 15 at 1:00 pm to make a "Cosmic Kaleidoscope"! Ages 6 and up.
Juice Jam: Join Polly Beach for Juice Jam on Sat., Mar. 17 at 1:00 pm – a music program featuring simple songs, rhythm instruments, lots of audience participation, and a snack! Juice Jam is fun for preschoolers & primary graders (& a parent).
Museum Passes: A museum visit is a great March Break family activity! The library lends free family passes to several Ottawa museums. Contact the library for more information.

Mysterious Mars - Mar. 5
Join area space enthusiast Frank Hitchins for Mysterious Mars: unlocking the secrets of the Red Planet on Mon. Mar. 5 at 7:00 pm at the library.
This fascinating presentation explores what we know about Mars and what we hope to learn in the future. Previous presentations by Hitchins on alien life and the moon landing have been popular with adults and older children.

Off the Shelf returns - Feb. 22!
Theatre Night In Merrickville's popular story-reading series, Off the Shelf returns on a new night - Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 pm.
Join us at the library for this "reader's theatre" program featuring favourite short stories, poetry, and other literary gems for adults read by TNIM members.
This month's Off the Shelf features audience-favourite Martin Green and welcomes two new readers: Stuart Jackson and Rick Boswell. They will be sharing a variety of dramatic and humorous readings.
Light refreshments are available. There is no charge, although donations are accepted.
