This Month...Adopt-a-Book

Help us add New Books to our New Shelves!

The Friends of the Library are holding
an Adopt-a-Book campaign
Oct. 20 – 25

We are asking you to help us add new books
to the library
by sponsoring one of our selected titles.

You will receive a tax receipt for your donation,
and a bookplate with the donor’s name
(or other name of your choice)
will be inserted in each book
– plus, you can be the first one to check it out!

The library has a variety of books
- adult & children’s, fiction & non-fiction,
plus CD audiobooks -
with a range of prices waiting to be added
to the collection.

Our last Adopt-a-Book in 2006 was a great success
– we hope for your support this time.
For more information, contact the library
(613-269-3326).

Summer Programs are here!
The library is running summer programs to encourage reading for kids of all ages!
Contact the library for more information on any of these programs
(613-269-3326 or email:
merrickville_library@bellnet.ca).

Summer Reading Club For Kids:
Take the TD Reading Challenge this summer – join our TD Summer Reading Clubs (sponsored by the TD Financial Group) for ages 4-12.
This summer’s theme is LOL – Laugh Out Loud! Read 9 books over the summer to receive a special poster, stickers & logbook.
All our readers can pick a prize from our Grab Bag when they return their books & put their names in for our weekly poster draws!

Starting June 30, the library will have a drop-in craft/activity program on Monday afternoons (1:00 – 2:30 pm) to give kids a chance to pick up new books & keep reading! These crafts will tie into the LOL theme, but are open to all kids. Kids can also do the club as an Independent Reading Program – come by anytime for books.
Summer reading programs are a great way to preserve and enhance literacy skills over the summer - they have been shown to encourage kids to read for pleasure and develop the reading habit. Plus, they’re fun! Don’t miss out!

School Readiness Program:
Kids aged 3-5 can also participate in our “ABC & 123” program to foster kindergarten skills. Kids get activity sheets to take home. As they practice their alphabet & counting skills, they add leaves to our ABC & 123 Tree. Ask the librarian for more school readiness materials!

StoryTime:
Our drop-in program continues every Friday morning at 10:00(ish) through the summer with stories, songs & rhymes, rhythm instruments, and a simple craft for ages 6 & under (and a parent or caregiver). This summer, take advantage of our new location – come for StoryTime, then have fun at the beach!
Themes for July are:
July 4 - Summer
July 11 - Bicycles
July 18 - Monkeys
July 25 - Exploring

Online Book Club for Teens & Tweens:
Once again this summer, the library will be running an Online Book Club for Teens & Tweens! After each book, fill in a brief online review (on our Teen Book Blog) which will be posted to the Teen Book Blog. Each review is eligible to win our grand prize draw.
