    Summer Reading Club is Here!

Calling all kids to our “Destination – Jungle” TD Summer Reading Club! This is an annual program provided free by the Toronto Dominion Financial Group.

Kids joining the Club receive a theme poster, activity book, & stickers - plus a reward every time they return the books they’ve read! Club members can drop by anytime to pick up new books and enter their names in weekly draws for posters. Collect all 9 stickers to be eligible for our Prize Draw at the end of the summer. Kids can also visit our “Club House” – with board games, puzzles, a puppet theatre, and do-it-yourself crafts - available to enjoy during all library hours!

Starting July 8, the library will also offer a craft/activity program on Thursday afternoons (1:00 – 2:30 pm) to give kids a chance to pick up new books & keep reading. Summer activities include: building a jungle mobile, games, and a special visit by Andrea Howard “The Bug Lady”.

Summer reading programs have been shown to preserve and enhance literacy skills over the summer - they encourage kids to read for pleasure and develop the reading habit. Call the library (613-269-3326) to register or for more information.

    in celebration of
    Family Literacy Day.

This year’s Family Literacy Day theme is Sing for Literacy.
Attendance is free, but please register with the library
    Why Sing for Literacy?
Family Literacy Day is all about brushing up on your literacy skills in fun and different ways!
There are so many activities you can do to practice your literacy skills, such as following a recipe, reading a road map or singing from a song sheet.
Singing is a great literacy activity for families because it provides a fun way to expand spoken vocabulary and creates a strong bond.
Singing allows you to learn patterns of words, rhymes and rhythms, and is strongly connected to language skills.
