Read to Every Kid - back for year 5!

The county-wide Read to Every Kid Every Day campaign is back for its 5th year! 

This year's 10 selected picture books are available at the library.  Share them with your children and have them vote for their favourite.  Visit the Read to Every Kid Pinterest page for more.

This year's titles are:
  • The Cat's Pyjamas - Catherine Foreman
  • Do You Know Which Ones Will Grow?  -  Susan A. Shea
  • Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site - Sherri Duskey Rinker
  • The Little White Rabbit  -  Kevin Henkes
  • Lost & Found  -  Oliver Jeffers
  • Mitchell's License  -  Hallie Durand
  • Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons  -  Eric Litwin
  • Tuck Me In!  -  Dean Hacohen
  • Where is the Green Sheep?  -  Mem Fox
  • Where the Wild Things Are  -  Maurice Sendak
The program runs until Jan. 17, and the book with the most votes will be announced on Family Literacy Day (Jan. 25). 

Reading to children from the earliest age contributes to greater success in school and in life.  The 10 selected titles promote key skills for reading success, as well as being lots of fun.   Contact the Library (or 613-269-3326) to reserve a set of books.

Halloween Howl - Sat. Oct. 26


Join us for our Halloween Howl - Sat, Oct. 26 at 10:30 am!
 
The library puts the “BOO” into “Books” with a Halloween music & story program - featuring stories and music both with rhythm instruments, lots of audience participation, and a snack! 
(Not-so) Spooky fun for ages 10 & under.  Costumes are optional, but don't forget your Halloween spirit!

This month we'll "brush up our Shakespeare" with readings from and about the Bard - including a seasonal visit from Macbeth's witches!

This 2-hour workshop, led by Gloria Beek, will combine an introduction to online genealogy searching for newcomers, with a more advanced exploration of available online genealogy resources.  Includes resource handouts.

Diana Beresford-Kroeger Talk - Wed., Oct. 16!

"10 Trees that Can Save the World":  Internationally renowned scientist, environmentalist and author Diana Beresford-Kroeger will read "Chasing Cures", the story of her harrowing efforts to locate a rare tree - from her new book The Sweetness of the Simple Life. This book is just coming out in October and we hope to have copies available for signing.
