Off the Shelf - Mon. Nov. 18 at 7pm
Last month’s Off the Shelf featured dramatic and humourous readings from Shakespeare - and delightful period recorder tunes played by Marcia Phillips, with help from her student.
This month’s Off the Shelf – Mon., Nov. 18 at 7:00 pm
at the Library – will have a Remembrance Day theme, with readings about
WWI.
Our readers will include
Merrickville author Dan Black, reading from his new book “Old Enough to Fight: Canada ’s Boy
Soldiers in the First World War”.
[Note: this will be a different reading than at his Book Launch on Sat., Nov. 16 at 1:30 pm at the Library.]But it won’t be all seriousness and trench warfare, readers will be presenting “an amalgam of writings and poems that express the best of the human spirit in the most inhuman of places, highlighting the positive sides of the human spirit - love, compassion, justice, generosity of spirit and preparedness to sacrifice oneself for others – often found in the writings of the period.”
Don’t miss Off the Shelf this month!
