Library Events in June!

The Library has some great events lined up for June for kids and adults.

Off the Shelf! (Mon, June 16, 7:00 pm):  
Martin is back as host for Off the Shelf – an entertaining evening of short stories and other literary tidbits for adult listeners.  Light refreshments available. 

Juice Jam (Sat. June 21, 10:30 am):
Polly Beach is back with another Juice Jam music program  - with singing, rhythm instruments, lots of audience participation, and juice! -  for ages 7 & under. 

iPad User Group (Sat. June 28, 10:30 am): 
Our popular iPad tutorial has spawned a User Group!  Bring your ipad and join our group as Robert Gray helps you do more with your iPad!

3-D Printer demo (Sat, June 28, 11am - 4 pm, drop-in):
3D printers are an awesome new technology that will transform the way we make things – and stimulate curiosity, imagination and learning.  Come see one in action at the library with Luc Lalande of Young Maker!  Kids (and adults) are welcome at this drop-in demonstration of how a 3D printer and 3D design tools work!   Young Maker is dedicated to introducing youth to this revolutionary new tool.  Find out more at YoungMaker.ca.  

StoryTime (Fridays, 10(ish)): 
Come for stories, songs, rhymes & a simple craft!  It’s a fun way to build school readiness skills and encourage a love of books.

LEGO Club (Saturdays, 10 - 12 noon): 
Our drop-in LEGO Club for ages 4-12 continues in June.

Bob Stanley will be giving up his guest host duties, but staying on as a reader along with some other familiar Off the Shelf faces.

Plant Sale Fundraiser - Sat. May 17!

across from the Royal Bank 
 (beside the old library).  

Get great plants at great prices while you help support the library!  A wide assortment of plants will be available.  Don’t miss it!

This is a Bring & Buy event - the Friends gratefully accept donations of plants for the sale.  If you have plants you would like to donate, pick-up can be arranged.  Thank you to everyone who has donated plants in the past.

Online Education @ your Library!

Your Library is now a classroom!

Merrickville Library has partnered with Contact North to bring courses to you at your local library.  Computer stations for coursework are available to use in the library.  Exam supervision is also available.
 
Contact North provides Distance and Online Education and Training and student support throughout Ontario.  You can access more than 18,000 courses and over 1,000 online programs - ranging from high-school equivalency to master's degree - offered by over 40 Ontario public colleges, universities, and other training providers.

Courses available include:
  • Literacy
  • Basic Skills (Computer skills, Life skills)
  • High School & GED
  • College (eg Business Diploma, Personal Support Worker Diploma, Recreation and Leisure Services Diploma)
  • University (eg Bachelor of Commerce, Gerontology Certificate, Masters of Education)
Many literacy, basic skills, and GED courses are available free of charge.
