The library will be Open with Reduced Hours from Tues, Sept 1 -  Thurs, Sept 3 
and will be Closed Fri, Sept. 4 – Mon, Sept. 7 for the Labour Day long weekend.

What's Happening in September

 Reduced Library Hours Sept. 1 - 7:  
The library will be Open with Reduced Hours from Sept 1 - 3 (open 2- 5 pm only on Tues & Thurs, open regular hours on Wed) and will be Closed Sept. 4 – 7 for the Labour Day long weekend.
   
Fall Bulb Sale (Sept. 8 - 12, 10 am - 4 pm; at the Royal Bank):  
Back by popular demand!  The Friends of the Library will be selling Vesey bulbs from Sept. 8 - 12 at the Royal Bank to raise funds for the library.  The colourful selection includes: purple passion blend tulips, sky blue lilies, pink daffodils, giant purple allium, plus spring flowers (crocuses, windflowers, etc.) and several assortments.  Enhance your garden and your library at the same time!

Youth Group (Sat, Sept. 12, 1:00 pm): 
Our Youth Group (for ages 10-14) will kick off the new school year, with some Nail Art! Come learn how to rock your manicure! 

Movie Club (Thurs, Sept. 17, 2:00 pm):  
Our Movie Club continues to meet once a month for a film & discussion (contact the library for details).  New members welcome.

End of Life Planning Seminar (Sept. 17, 6:00 pm)
This Eternal Care seminar is an evening of free information on final arrangements, preplanning, and the local community's invaluable resources for families and individuals making later milestone decisions.  Space is limited, please register at 613-246-5933 / Madelyn@eternalcare.ca .

Mac User Group (Sat, Sept. 19, 10:30 am): 
Join our Mac user group with Bob Gray for tips on mastering your Mac.

Off the Shelf! (Mon, Sept. 21, 7:00 pm):  
Our popular "Readings for Adults" program is back for a 5th year of literary hijinks!   This year we have a planned program of themes that host Martin Green promises will delight audiences.  Over the years Off the Shelf has built up an enthusiastic group of readers and listeners – but there’s always room for more.  Mark the 3rd Monday of the month on your calendars, or contact the library if you’d like to be added to our e-mail reminder list.

Computer Help! - Data File Transfer Workshop (Sat, Sept. 26, 10:30 am):  
Having trouble moving data (documents, photos, music, videos, etc) between your computer(s), phone, tablet, or even older diskettes, CDs, or DVDs?  Join John Harris, (and his 50+ years of computer experience) for this workshop on transferring files without stress.  Contact the library to register.

Get Started with Library eBooks (Thursdays, 6:00-8:30 pm (drop-in)): 
Learn how to access eBooks and eAudiobooks from the library on your eReader, tablet, or phone! 

StoryTime (Fridays, 10ish):  
Bring your toddler or preschooler (ages 5 & under) to the library for StoryTime Friday mornings at 10:00(ish).  Our drop-in StoryTime is a great way to develop your child’s early literacy and group interaction skills in a fun and relaxed setting.  StoryTime uses the Every Child Ready To Read pre-literacy programming to promote key skills that will help your child become a successful reader – through stories related to a theme, songs, rhymes & rhythm instruments, and a simple craft.  New StoryTimers are always welcome!  September’s themes are: Head to Toe, Farms, and Trucks!

LEGO Club (Saturdays, 10 - 12 noon):  
Join us for brick-filled building fun at our Saturday morning LEGO drop-ins.

Museum Passes available at the Library!

Visiting a museum is a great summer activity.  Many have special summer events.  

The library lends family passes (for 1 week) to these Ottawa museums:  
  • Canadian Museum of History
  • Museum of Nature 
  • Agriculture Museum
  • Aviation and Space Museum
  • War Museum 
  • & the Ottawa Museum Network.

Movies at the Library!  Not only does the Library have over 1,000 DVDs to borrow, but we are also showing movies at the Library…

The Library’s summer activities for kids continues in August! 
TD Summer Reading Club!:  

The library is running the TD Summer Reading Club to encourage reading for kids of all ages!  If you’re not involved yet, it’s not too late!  Get a ticket our Prize Draw for each book read.  
We also have activities for school-aged kids on Thursday afternoons: 
  • K - Gr 3 kids meet from 2:00 to 3:00 pm
  • then Gr 4 + meet from 3:00 until 4:00(ish).

StoryTime for ages 6 & under (and a parent/caregiver) continues through the summer!   It’s a fun way to prepare for starting school this fall.
