Library Events in October!

The Library offers a variety of events you won't want to miss for adults and for kids in October.  Events are free of charge, but please register (613-269-3326 or email), as space is limited.

Adult Events:
"10 Trees that Can Save the World" (Wed, Oct. 16, 7:00 pm):  Internationally renowned scientist, environmentalist and author Diana Beresford-Kroeger will read "Chasing Cures", the story of her harrowing efforts to locate a rare tree - from her new book The Sweetness of the Simple Life.  This book is just coming out in Oct. and copies will be available for signing.  Diana will also talk about her current film "10 Trees that Can Save the World" and share some amusing behind-the-scenes stories.  If you'd like to learn more about this project to reveal the importance of trees in our lives and environment, visit www.dianasjourney.com .

Online Genealogy Workshop (Sat, Oct. 19, 10:00 am): This 2-hour workshop, led by Gloria Beek, will combine an introduction to online genealogy searching for newcomers with a more advanced exploration of available online genealogy resources.  Includes resource handouts.

Off the Shelf! (Mon, Oct. 21, 7:00 pm):  Don't miss our popular "Readings for Adults" program by members of Theatre Night in Merrickville.  This month we'll "brush up our Shakespeare" with readings from and about Shakespeare - including a seasonal visit from Macbeth's witches!

Wellness Talk: Straight Talk about Gluten (Tues, Oct. 22, 1:00 pm): "Gluten Free" has become a common label in grocery stores and restaurants. But, what is gluten and why do we care if it's in our food? If a food is gluten free, is it healthier? Join Dr. Katie Weststrate, ND, to discuss the differences between the various forms of gluten sensitivity and allergy and to break apart common misconceptions about 'gluten free' foods.

Events For Kids:
"Il etait une fois…" (Sat, Oct. 19, 1:00 pm): Come for a French StoryTime for ages 8 & under including fun Fall stories, rhymes & a craft, with Alexandra Mathewson.

Halloween Howl (Sat, Oct. 26, 10:30 am):  The library puts the “BOO” into “Books” with a Halloween music & story program featuring stories, music, rhythm instruments, lots of audience participation, and a snack!  (Not-so) Spooky fun for ages 10 & under.  Costumes are optional, but don't forget your Halloween spirit!

LEGO Club (Saturdays, 10 - 12 noon):  Our drop-in LEGO Club for ages 4-12 continues on Saturdays - but is cancelled on Oct. 26 (for our Halloween Howl).

StoryTime (Fridays, 10(ish)):  Join us for seasonal stories, songs, rhymes & a simple craft.  New StoryTimers are always welcome.
