Guitar Basics Workshop (Sat., Feb. 8, 1:30 pm):  

Interested in exploring the basics of Guitar?  Come and learn at this free workshop presented by Jordan Rannells of Creative Sound Productions!  The workshop will start with the difference between guitars and styles of playing, then cover set up, tuning and learning a few chords!  This introductory workshop is open to aspiring musicians of all ages.  Bring your own guitar or use our demo.  Contact the library to register.

Tax Tips for Seniors (Sat. Feb. 15, 10:30 am):   

The government has introduced many new tax changes that affect seniors!   Come to this information seminar, by John Harris CMC, to find out how these changes will affect your taxes!  The presentation will be followed by a Question and Answer period.  Contact the library to register.

Behaviour Change: Breaking Unhealthy Habits (Tues. Feb. 18, 12:00 noon):  

Have a habit that's gotten to be too much?  Smoking, over-eating, alcohol, exercise, texting?  Join Naturopathic Dr. Katie Weststrate at this month's Wellness Talk to review theories of behaviour change and holistic, Naturopathic concepts that support breaking free of addictive patterns and ingrained habits. The overall focus will be broad based and applicable regardless of the habit.  This will be a special noon-hour talk - you can lunch while you learn! 


Off the Shelf! (Mon., Feb. 24, 7:00 pm):   

Theatre Night in Merrickville's Off the Shelf is back - with another popular "Open Mic Night"!  Anyone is welcome to take their turn in the ultra-comfy "Reader's Chair" to share a favourite short reading, poem, monologue/ dialogue, or other literary gem (length: 5-10 minutes).  Don't be shy!  Contact Martin Green (613-269-3886) or the library if you are interested in being a reader.  Light refreshments will be available. 

Access Library eBooks (by appointment):  

Learn how to access eBooks and eAudiobooks from the library on your eReader, tablet, or phone!  Contact the library for  a personal tutorial showing you how to browse, checkout and download library eBooks and eAudiobooks to your device anytime, anywhere.

Family Literacy Day StoryTime!

Come to the Library on Sat., Jan. 25 at 10:30 am for a special StoryTime to celebrate Family Literacy Day

Join us for stories from the Read to Every Kid contest - including this year's winning story.  There will also be activities, handouts, and a snack.  Attendance is free, but interested families are asked to register with the library (or call 613-269-3326).

Book Reading by Kevin Morris - Jan. 18

Join us for a Book Reading by Kevin Morris - on Sat. Jan. 18 at 1:30 pm

Area author Kevin Morris will be reading from his new novel In Times Wanting.  

This is the story of Berrin and Eileen, who "after surviving near execution and emotional breakdown in Mexico, meet up in Ottawa after a decade long separation, both in search of a new beginning." 


Morris drew his inspiration from his international development experiences in Mexico, his work in Artist-Run-Centres across Canada, and his Irish roots in rural Canada.  He has worked for Youth Centres Canada over the past decade (formerly TYPS, working out of Merrickville).

The Leeds & Grenville Read to Every Kid campaign runs to Jan. 17. Read the 10 selected picture books (available at the library) to your child, and then vote for his/her favourite.   Then join us for...

Family Literacy Day StoryTime (Sat, Jan. 25, 10:30 am):  

Come to the Library for a special Saturday StoryTime to listen to a few favourites from the Read to Every Kid stories - and to announce this year's winning story!  There will also be activities, handouts, and a snack. 

StoryTime:

Stories, songs and a simple craft for toddlers and preschoolers every Friday morning at 10(ish).  Our theme for January is Wonderful Winter!

LEGO Club:

Come to the Library for brick-building fun at our LEGO drop-in - Saturday mornings from 10 to Noon [cancelled Jan. 25 for our Family Literacy Day StoryTime].
