October programs for kids & adults!

Children's Programs in October!

Read to Every Kid Comes to Merrickville-Wolford!:
The county-wide Read to Every Kid Every Day campaign is back for its 4th year - and Merrickville Library is excited to be hosting this year's launch! Bring your kids to the library at a special time - Monday, October 15 at 10:00 am - for the opening ceremony with a special StoryTime featuring some of this year's great books! Let's show Leeds & Grenville our enthusiasm for reading!

The premise behind this award-winning annual program (a joint effort of libraries, OEYCs and other children’s agencies across Leeds & Grenville) is simple: reading to children from the earliest age contributes to greater success in school and in life - and it's fun. Parents/caregivers read the 10 selected picture books (available at libraries and OEYCs) to their children, who then vote for their favourite. The book with the most votes will be announced on Family Literacy Day in January. The 10 titles promote key skills for reading success, as well as being lots of fun to read.

Halloween Howl:
Join us on Sat., Oct. 27 at 1:00 pm for a Halloween music & story program featuring stories, music, rhythm instruments, lots of audience participation, and a snack! Fun for ages 10 & under. Wear your costume or come as you are!

Come for a brick-filled hour of building fun.

Adult Programs in October!
Off the Shelf! (Mon., Oct. 15, 7:00 pm):
Off the Shelf captivated last month's audience. Don't miss this month's readers from Theatre Night in Merrickville with a variety of short stories, poetry & more for adult listeners - and with a special musical interlude by Gloria Stowell & Marcia Phillips.

Internet Basics (Thurs., Oct. 18, 10:30 am):
Last month's Internet basics workshop was so popular we are running it again. Join John Harris for an easy, non-threatening introduction to email and internet searching at the library. Limited space - call to register. Watch for our session on downloading and sending photos in November!

Relaxation and Stress Management (Mon., Oct. 22, 7:00 pm):
The effects of stress lie at the root of all disease and you have the power to change it! Get a handle on your response to stress with some simple and effective relaxation-inspiring techniques presented by Naturopathic Doctor Katie Weststrate. Topics will include: effects of stress, mindfulness in action, tips for sound sleep and the importance of breath and exercise to minimize the impact stress has in your life.

Duplicate Bridge: Want to learn to play duplicate bridge? There is interest in starting a beginner's group (with instruction) at the library. Open to ages 12 & up. Contact the library.
